Xiyuan Tan

The slides below showcase my entry for the mascot character design competition organized by China Fire and Rescue. The brief asked artists to design cartoon characters that represent firefighters of China, and provide details of how these characters can be applied in different contexts. My design has won first prize in the competition.

Although mascot characters are generally cute and adorable, I believe that firefighting is a dangerous job that requires courage and determination, hence I spent quite a lot of time figuring out how to make these characters look cute, but also brave and strong at the same time. The characters include a boy and a girl because I want to encourage more women to take part in firefighting.
